Sony announced the release of the Sony Ericcson Xperia Play less than a month ago but tech fans have already been counting down the days until the smart gaming phone is released. Although Sony is focusing more on highlighting the technology surrounding the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play a recent article mentioned that the hand held gaming device would soon be available through Verizon Wireless. This small detail could have a marked effect on the cell phone carrier industry. Apple has already axed a once exclusive iPhone deal with AT&T by signing a deal that would also let Verizon Wireless carrier the extremely popular smart phones. Although Sony has since denied naming Verizon Wireless as the exclusive carrier for the Xperia Play experts believe that the company may just not want the world to know what their plans are. In late 2010 several pictures of the Xperia Play were accidentally leaked well before Sony had planned.
An exclusive deal with Sony may be yet another nail in the coffins of competing cell phone carriers. Sprint has long been criticized for charging its customers roaming charges and exorbitant fees for inferior Internet connections and T-Mobile has just started to get into the game with its line of Android cell phones. The Xperia Play appealing to hardcore gamers that have yet to find a smart phone that would allow them to play full scale video games on the go. Sony will likely release the gaming phone in Japan first with the United States and Europe to follow, however, the company is reluctant to issue an official release date. With Apple still hard at work on the iPhone 5 it will definitely be a battle for smart phone supremacy when the two electronic manufacturing giants release their latest inventions.
